Here’s What a Theoretical Physicist Thinks of The US Military’s Study on Light Speed Travel
A recently brought to light study on aerospace technologies involving propulsion, stealth, and lift has revealed amazing possibilities about the future of technology. The study is said to have been funded by the US Department of Defense in August 2008 in order to reveal mysteries about the world and test the limits of technology.
The Defence Intelligence Agency produced the document dated April 2, 2010, to the public. According to the document’s authors, we are not too far off from unlocking the mysteries of higher, unseen dimensions and dark/negative energy. In essence, dark energy is a repulsive force that many physicists believe is pushing the universe apart at amazing speeds.
As per the report, the controls of this higher dimensional space may be a source of technological control over the dark energy density. Ultimately, they expect that this could play a role in the development of exotic propulsion technologies, in specific, a warp drive. In addition, the report cites that trips to other planets in our own solar system would actually take hours instead of years. At the same time, to travel within our local start system, the time spent would take weeks, instead of hundreds of thousands of years.
Background
However, not all were optimistic about the report. In particular, Sean Carrol, a theoretical physicist at Caltech who actively studies the topics covered by the report, dismissed most of the optimism contained in the report. Carrol described the report as simply an amalgamation of bits and pieces of theoretical physics that is set up as though it could have potentially real-world applications.
He strongly believes that the data contained therein doesn’t seem to show any discernable real-world application. He described the report as being far-reaching because he doesn’t expect some of the theories posited to connect with engineering anytime soon, or ever. One of the DIA officials listed as a contact in the report, James T. Lacatski, was not able to be reached by reporters who sought to make further inquiries.
Specifically, the document is known as an “acquisition threat support” reference document. It is designed to help the US military anticipate new enemy technologies, including the very notional ones, that are yet to exist. The study is said to have been conducted as part of the Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program, a larger program that comprised the Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program. A number of major publications in the country revealed the existence of the AATIP in December. All this was part of a concerted effort to investigate reports of UFO sightings by military personnel.
Nothing Much
Robert Bigelow, a real-estate mogul who has worked in the construction of private space stations through Bigelow Aerospace, is said to have funded his own UFO research for a number of years now. The mogul went on to form a separate entity called Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies to secure government funding and hire 46 researchers and dozens of other support personnel.
Speaking anonymously, a senior intelligence official spoke to members of the press letting them know that AATIP at first started off by rooting out the existence of undiscovered Russian and Chinese military technologies, however, after a number of years, they realized that they did not find anything of substance before finally running out of funding in 2011 or 2012.
Shostak believes that there is no way that aliens could have traveled through hundreds of light-years to do nothing. Meanwhile, the larger program which looked into the feasibility of warp drives, stargates, and wormholes is being scrutinized by experts in the field.
Admittedly, Carroll admits that the DIA’s report got somethings right. He mentions that it’s true that warp drives, extra dimensions, the Casimir effect and dark energy exist. However, he takes issue with the manner in which the DIA has pushed its analysis because he does not expect that anyone in our lifetime or in the next 1,000 years is going to come up with anything that will make utility of these ideas for real-world application.
