However, the citizens were still surprised when they saw a one-of-a-kind colossal structure rooted in the Port on one Friday morning. For a moment they thought that a famous pirate had invaded their town when they saw the stunning yacht which resembled the Pirates of the Caribbean ship.  

Avid fans of the famous film franchise were hoping to see if the notorious character, Captain Jack Sparrow, had also boarded it. Whether or not the renowned actor was there, millions of his fans can enjoy a cruise out into the blue waters on this luxurious yacht.

The said Johnny Depp-inspired yacht, named Amphitrite, was anchored in Portland Harbor sometime in September last year. The vessel featured a towering 156-foot tall structure with steamship-style. It also has stunning amenities like five staterooms, multiple decks, teak, and mahogany woodwork. The actor’s loyal fans can have the luxurious yacht reserved for an astounding $130,000 a week!

The Name’s Origin

Before the yacht obtained its official Amphitrite name, Depp reportedly named it ‘Vajoliroja’ derived from the combination of his and former girlfriend Vanessa Paradis’ initials as well as those of his children, Lily-Rose and Jack. However, he changed the yacht’s title to Amphitrite to honor his then-wife, Amber Heard. The vessel’s name also represented Poseidon’s wife, the Greek sea goddess.

The media has tried getting a statement from the Harbor’s Master, Kevin Battle to see if he could provide some details about the yacht’s schedule. Unfortunately, even he couldn’t give out any information since the vessel is anchored in the old Portland Yacht Services located at 58 Fore St. He revealed how the crew kept mum the entire time, they didn’t even tell where they came from, or the destination of their next voyage. To his surprise, he received reports of the Amphitrite leaving the port quietly in the same afternoon, without any sign of Depp boarding it.

The Acquisition

While Johnny Depp inspired the boat’s design, sources reveal he’s not the current owner of the ship. Depp reportedly sold it for an astounding 22 million Pounds with Curtis Strokes and Associates. The famous actor reportedly had the watercraft renovated to add exotic lighting and bought more exquisite paintings to hand on the walls – which cost him a whopping five million pounds.

The boat can accommodate up to ten high-profile guests with its innovative amenities like a salon, coffee tables, lounge chairs, and a wine bar cabinet made of glass that served as the storage for expensive wines and liquors. The website also listed the vessel is a perfect entertainment and relaxation space for those who want to chase the waters. Despite the acquisition, the best-selling Harry Potter author reportedly sold Amphitrite a few months after she purchased it.
