Joan Collins’ Two Key Tips Sharon Stone Follows After 40
Sharon Stone continues to embrace aging with confidence, refusing to let societal expectations define her. As she approaches her 67th birthday, the “Basic Instinct “star remains unapologetically herself.
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, she spoke about self-acceptance, Hollywood’s double standards, and the unforgettable advice Joan Collins once gave her about life after 40.
Aging With Confidence and Strength
Stone believes that many people stop caring about their bodies as they age, but she sees things differently. “A lot of people give up as they get older,” she explained. “They let go of their body because it’s collapsing anyway, or they think, ‘I’m not defined by my body anymore.’”
However, Stone refuses to fall into that mindset. She insists that loving one’s body remains important at any stage of life. “You still have to love that body,” she said. She also joked about her changing appearance, saying, “My underarms have pleats now. I think, ‘Well, I had beautiful arms, and now they’re strong and painting. So what if they have pleats? Maybe that’s what makes them wonderful now.’”
Joan Collins’ Hilarious Advice on Aging Gracefully

Instagram | joancollinsdbe | Collins gave Stone two pieces of humorous advice about what women shouldn’t do after 40.
During a game of billiards at the home of “Jackie Collins,” Stone received some unforgettable advice from Joan Collins, best known for her role in “Dynasty.” With her signature wit, Collins told Stone there were two things a woman should never do after turning 40.
“Joan said: ‘Let me give you a tip. After 40, never get on top and never wave goodbye.’”
Collins’ humor didn’t stop there. She once described a man to Stone as a “bungalow—everything downstairs, nothing upstairs.” Stone found her honesty and comedic timing both amusing and refreshing.
Taking Control in Hollywood
Stone has long been outspoken about the challenges women face in Hollywood, particularly when it comes to control over their image. She shared a shocking experience from the 1980s when a studio decided to sell off her wardrobe after a television film.
“They sold my wardrobe at a discount to make their money back, and they were even selling my underwear,” she recalled. “I was so embarrassed and uncomfortable that the crew guys were rummaging through my underpants. I thought, ‘Never again.’”
Determined to prevent that from happening in the future, she made sure her contracts included a clause allowing her to keep all her costumes unless they were studio rentals.

Stone still owns many iconic outfits from her films, including the infamous white mini dress from “Basic Instinct,” which she keeps locked in a safe. “I also have a ton of shoes from that movie in my closet, like black split-toe Gucci heels and strappy gold-studded ones,” she revealed.
Her wardrobe from “Casino” also holds a special place in her heart. “The costumes were magnificent. What an amazing job Rita Ryack, the costume designer, did,” Stone said. “I took the Pucci jacket that Ginger dies in.”
