And it seemed this Polish town decided to fulfill his wishlist by gifting him a classic economy Flat 126 car! But how exactly did they managed to acquire this vintage car when the company is no longer manufacturing it? In 2017, Tom Hanks shocked the world when he announced the 1973 vintage car Flat 126p officially joined his garage. Many of his fans were surprised the veteran actor now owned the said car when it’s only available in Europe between 1973-2000. Furthermore, you won’t find any dealership in the US selling it anymore. So how did he managed to acquire such a rare vintage car? It turns out he got help from his loyal Polish fans who were eager to fulfill their idol’s birthday wish.

The people living in

The people living in Bielsko-Biala, Poland raised money to give Tom Hanks the car as their birthday present to thank him for helping them.

The town started running a campaign on a crowdfunding platform spearheaded by Hank’s most loyal fan named Monika Jaskolska. Monika saw his tweets featuring a Flat 126 car (which also happened to be their hometown’s pride), so she started raising money to help his idol get his dream car. After several weeks, they accumulated enough money to buy the vehicle from their local factory, have it fixed and renovated to look good and presentable, flying it across the Atlantic Ocean before it landed at Hanks’ doorstep.

The Gratitude

Why would a group of loyal fans go these extra miles just to give Tom Hanks this extravagant gift? Well, it turned out the Polish residents not only want to give him a birthday present to make him happy, but their gift also serves as their token of gratitude for all the help the renowned actor extended to their town.

Tom Hanks brought joy to the Polish citizens when he started posting pictures of himself with Flat 126 cars while walking on a random street in the country. He said seeing the small car somehow brought joy to his heart, so he decided to document the small vehicle and caption he’s going to own the car someday. Aside from that, Tom Hanks also donated thousands of dollars to the hospital where Monika works.
